"It's like Daddy's in Prison"

oy- the dog is finally gone, the dance recitals and sleepover tye-dye birthday party are over, and brownie camp where I was a leader- no sleepover stuff at camp thank you, I don't do the outdoorsie tent stuff- is done, and now I can get back to the business of the giant pity party -
Father's Day was hard- my youngest remarked when we passed our usual liquor store that we should stop and buy Daddy beer. "No, you dummy, " his kind sister told him, "don't you get it, Daddy's not living with us anymore!"
"Oh, " said the little one"I forgot." then he comes out with "It's like he's in prison - he wears a uniform, he calls us, we don't call him and we can't visit him."
Hmmmm - who knew he would be the philosopher in the family-
He's right- it is like prison - Shrub is the warden and Mr. Wonderful's sentence is farrrrr to long, all appeals exhausted, no chance for parole.
as much as I try and schedule the kids so that they will forget the hell we are going through, it never leaves me-
And then we have the people who seem to think it's funny to make 'nutty -crunchy' jokes-
Because I'm not a big meat eater
Because I don't support the shrub-
Because of my earrings-
and yet, haven't the American people agreed with MY SIDE ?
hmmmm

No way are you going to forget, nor are the kids. but you learn to live with it. honest. It is still the elephant in the living room, but it becomes a fact of life.

I won't tell you that liberals like us are ever going to be accepted, but in our subculture, we have to learn to absorb, ignore the jerks. I've learned to do things to support the troops, care packages, "projects" like a huge BBQ that my DH's unit had, where we at home sent 300 lbs of munchies, decorations and BBQ sauce. or the big Xmas cookie baking decorating packing party a bunch of wives and moms did. We don't talk politics there, we just talk stories the guys tell us, show pictures etc. NO, I'm not telling you to pretend that you are something you are not, but realize that there are other things. I sometimes save the activism for blogging, "Bring it On" is a favourite. Doesn't always work though...

You'll make it. good days, bad days. but you'll make it.

Glad to see a new post! I have been thinking about you.

I have often though that the whole military experience resembles prison a bit - especially deployment. I have never faced another situation in my life where there is literally no way to stop something from happening. It really does suck, you're right.

Hang in there. At least you are facing it - and getting it done/over with! I know it must sound like a worn out cliché, but it really does eventually get easier - a dull ache rather than constant agony.

Come bitch at Kimbaland if you want!
